Organizing Next Steps

Admin showed promising movement on several articles, with plenty left on the table to win. This is a testament to the collective action of all research staff over the last few weeks. Let’s keep that pressure up and continue to show Admin we demand a strong second contract!

Promising progress… …with plenty left on the table.
Admin wage proposal:  1%, 0%, and 0% to  1%, 1%, and 1% for 2026-2028. Movement, but still doesn’t even keep up with inflation, nor the value of the work we do. We need to show up to collective actions to win more.
Admin is backpedaling on stripping discrimination protections they were seeking to remove (medical status, ethnic origin, political affiliation, and union membership) but have not accepted our current contract language. Our contract’s current non-discrimination language is strong and clear, and our members deserve the best protection. Why change it in the first place? Additionally, their proposal lacks caste protections, clear workplace bullying protections, and concurrent grievance timelines with Civil Rights Compliance Office investigations.

Our rights. Our research. Our future.

We must continue building our collective power through the actions coming up next week to win the contract UW Researchers need and deserve. UW needs to choose our vision for a stronger UW future over a weak stance allowing Trump to dismantle UW’s world-class research enterprise.

We don’t think waiting passively for this federal administration to change is the answer. Instead, take a proactive approach by prioritizing the people who do the work first! Join colleagues at any or all of the actions near you!
